Where to stay in Thurgau? The most beautiful holiday flats and hotels in Thurgau on Lake Constance

Thurgau is known for its magnificent apple-growing regions, its blossom splendour and the Thurgau wines. In spring, the numerous apple trees blossom and the Lake Constance landscape is transformed into a sea of pale pink flowers. The canton offers exceptional holiday opportunities, especially for cyclists. The green hills on the southern shore of Lake Constance are ideal for hikers and cyclists. Around 1000 kilometres of hiking trails open up the canton, while cyclists have 900 kilometres of cycle paths at their disposal. Families also appreciate the landscape and the campsites right by the water.

Steckborn: Steckborn is located on Untersee and is a pretty municipality with 3,700 inhabitants and a picturesque old town. The town is not large, but you can take a wonderful stroll along the lake or wander through the beautiful old town.

Gottlieben: This tiny village with just 340 inhabitants on the Rhine between Untersee and Lake Constance is a real gem. And as the name suggests, the popular Gottlieber Hüppen are made here. If you are interested, it is best to make a detour to the Gottlieber Seecafé & Manufakturladen, where you can buy the crispy delicacies in all variations.

Romanshorn: The small town of Romanshorn on Lake Constance, with a population of just under 10,000, has a beautiful harbour from which numerous boat trips are offered on Lake Constance all the way to Germany. A trip on the ferry to Friedrichshafen (Germany) is highly recommended. But be sure to wait for the trip at sunset, the atmosphere over Lake Constance as the sun slowly sets is just so beautiful...

Bischofszell, which has a population of around 5,550, is listed in the inventory of sites worthy of protection in Switzerland and is characterised above all by its old town, which looks like something straight out of a picture book. The original town centre is relatively small and you will quickly have seen everything, but it is really fun to walk around the houses and take in the original charm of the beautiful old buildings.

The cantonal capital Frauenfeld is a lively town surrounded by greenery. Here, the picturesque old town with its rich historical background and the wonderfully gentle Thurgau countryside with its hills, waters, vineyards and timber-framed houses complement each other in a marvellous way. Whether it's a guided tour of the old town, a round of city golf or a hike with a picnic, there's something for everyone. The Thurgau History Museum in Frauenfeld Castle, the Nature Museum and the Museum of Archaeology present exciting exhibitions from times gone by. The family-friendly Plättli Zoo offers animal fun. We also recommend a trip to the nearby Stählibuck viewing tower.

Our recommendations for activities and excursions in Thurgau on Lake Constance

The beautiful Arenenberg Castle is located on the hillside in Salenstein. In addition to the Napoleon Museum, you can enjoy the beautiful gardens high above the vineyards and a marvellous view of Untersee and the picturesque landscape.

A kayak trip on the Rhine is an absolute must for us. Kayaks can be hired at various locations on Lake Constance. For an even more unique experience, we recommend a kayak trip at sunrise. Enjoy this moment on the Rhine on mirror-smooth water before anyone else - simply unique.

Kreuzlingen's Seeburgpark right on the water is beautiful! The fairytale Seeburg restaurant immediately catches the eye here. The town of Kreuzlingen is also a good starting point for a boat trip on Lake Constance or for a short detour across the border to Constance.

The canton also has plenty to offer children. Whether it's a trip to Conny-Land or one of the other theme parks, the Plättli Zoo in Frauenfeld or swimming fun in the numerous lidos on Lake Constance. Or take a day trip to the maize maze in Langrickenbach - the largest maize maze in Switzerland. In Neukirch an der Thur you can even go on a camel ride and llama trekking with your children.
