Activities
As the Aeolian Islands are of volcanic origin, they offer a range of great activities, especially for nature lovers and adventurers. They are also great for island hopping. This gives you a good overview of the diverse nature of the individual islands. The Aeolian Islands are also ideal for hiking - enjoy the unspoilt nature and impressive natural spectacles. On Lipari, the main island, you will find a wonderful variety of picturesque villages, beautiful bays and viewpoints. It is a good starting point for a trip. The climb up Monte Rosa is particularly great here, from where you have a panoramic view of the town of Lipari itself and the coast. One of the most famous hiking trails is the path to Punta della Crapazza.
On the island of Salina, two mountains, Monte dei Porri and the higher Monte Fossa delle Felci, are waiting to be discovered. You will be rewarded with a marvellous view after the hike. A hike around the island is also worthwhile.
Highlights are of course the volcanoes on Stromboli and Vulcano, which you can also visit on a hike. On Vulcano, you can experience the volcano up close with everything that goes with it. Clouds of gas and plumes of smoke come out of crevices all over the island. You also have one of the best views of the entire archipelago from Vulcano. The sulphurous, healing mud baths offered on Vulcano are also an exotic speciality. Stromboli is home to the only permanently active volcano in Europe - you should definitely visit the island with its unspoilt landscape shaped by volcanic activity!
